(Update 2026) IELTS Speaking Part 1 Topic Museum

1. Do you think museums are important?

A1: Yes, absolutely. I believe they are crucial for preserving our history and culture. They offer a tangible connection to the past and help educate future generations about where they come from.

A2: I suppose they are somewhat important, but I’m not sure if they’re as vital as other public services like schools or hospitals. They can sometimes feel a bit outdated compared to learning from the internet.

2. Are there many museums in your hometown?

A1: Yes, there are quite a few. My hometown is rich in history, so we have several museums dedicated to local history, art, and even a special one for traditional crafts.

A2: Not really. my hometown is a small city, so we only have one or two main museums.
They’re quite small and the collections aren’t very extensive. You’d have to go to a bigger city for a proper museum experience.

3. Do you often visit a museum?

A1: I try to go whenever I get the chance, especially when I travel to a new place. I find it’s one of the best ways to understand the local culture and history.

A2: No, not often at all. I’m usually quite busy with study, and it’s not really the first thing that comes to my mind when I have free time. I might go once in a blue moon if there’s a special exhibition.

4. When was the last time you visited a museum?

A1: Just a couple of months ago. I went to the National Museum with some friends who were visiting from out of town. We spent a whole afternoon there exploring the different galleries.

A2: Oh, it’s been years, I’m afraid. I honestly can’t even remember the exact time. It was probably back when I was still in school on a class trip.

1. Do you think museums are important?

Absolutely. Museums are far more than just buildings housing old objects; they’re the cultural heartbeat of a society. They preserve our heritage and offer a tangible link to the past. I’d say they’re invaluable.

2. Are there many museums in your hometown?

A1: Not really. I come from a relatively small town where there are just a few museums. Frankly, they’re quite modest in scale, so the experience is certainly a far cry from what you’d get in a major metropolitan museum.
That said, they do have their charm as hidden gems for anyone interested in our local heritage.

A2: Absolutely. My hometown is considered a real cultural hub, so we’re actually spoilt for choice when it comes to museums. There’s a real mixed bag of them, catering to all sorts of interests. The best part is that the vast majority offer free admission.

3. Do you often visit a museum?

A1: No, I don’t go very often. While I appreciate their value, I sometimes find they can be a bit dry for my taste. So, in my free time, visiting a museum isn’t really my cup of tea; I’d probably opt for something more active.

A2: Yeah, l’d say I do. I’m a bit of a history and culture buff, so I make a point of visiting museums pretty regularly, especially when I travel. I find that you can never fail to pick up something new, whether it’s a fascinating historical detail or a fresh perspective.

4. When was the last time you visited a museum?

That would be a few months ago. I visited the Memorial Hall of the Victims in the Nanjing Massacre Japanese Invaders. It was a profoundly moving experience. The exhibits serve as a powerful reminder of that history, making me reflect deeply and cherish the peace even more.
