IELTS Speaking Part 1 Topic Childhood activities
Sample answer 1
1. What are your favorite activities?
Well, there are quite a few things I love doing, but right now I’d say snowboarding and bouldering are at the top. They are both really thrilling activities, so whenever I get the chance, I try to hit the slopes or climb. I just love the rush.
2. What were your favorite activities when you were a child?
Well, growing up, I was never a social butterfly. One thing I loved doing was waiting until my parents, you know, went to work and quietly switching on the TV to watch soap operas. It was fun in a slightly sneaky way.
3. Did you prefer to do activities alone or with a group of people when you were a child?
Um, thinking back, I’d say I was more comfortable doing activities on my own as I was quite an introverted child. However, when I was at school, I often choose to join group activities instead. I didn’t want to feel left out. So being part of a group feel like the safer option.
4. Are there any differences between the activities you liked when you were a child and those you like now?
Well, when I was a kid, I spent a lot of time at home, you know, watching TV or
playing computer games. But now I’m much more into outdoor activities. I tried to
get outside and do different things whenever I got free time.
Sample answer 2
1. What are your favorite activities?
These days, I really enjoy activities that slow me down. For example, I like going for long walks without headphones, which sounds boring, but it actually clears my head. I also enjoy cooking simple meals, especially when I don’t rush it. I think as life gets busier, quiet activities feel more valuable.
2. What were your favorite activities when you were a child?
When I was a child, I loved anything that involved imagination. I could spend hours building random things with blocks or pretending the living room was a spaceship. Looking back, it wasn’t about the toys. It was about having time and freedom to create stories in my head.
3. Did you prefer to do activities alone or with a group of people when you were a child?
As a child, I actually preferred being alone sometimes. In a group, games were fun but competitive. When I was alone, I could control the story and the pace. I think even back then, I needed quiet time to recharge, although I didn’t realise it.
4. Are there any differences between the activities you liked when you were a child and those you like now?
Yes, the biggest difference is purpose. As a child, activities were about fun and curiosity. Now, I subconsciously think about efficiency or improvement. Even when I relax, part of me asks, “Is this useful?” I guess growing up means we trade pure fun for meaning.
