1. When did you start using social media?

Well I guess I started using social media more than a decade ago. Actually I don’t remember the exact time but I do remember when I was still a middle school student I started using social media and the first social media I used was QQ and instant messaging software in China is quite popular at that time.

2. Do you think you spend too much time on social media?

Yes I think so. I use social media too much every day. Actually I spend most of the time on WeChat and Weibo micro blog in China kind of like you know Facebook or Twitter in Western countries. Actually I think using social media is actually personal habit and as long as it doesn’t negatively impact on my well-being it’s not necessarily a problem.

3. Do your friends use social media?

Yes me and many of my friends enjoy using social media. We use it to keep in touch with each other. We share our lives by taking photos. We’re doing some updates. We also follow our favorite you know celebrities or influencers online.

4. What do people often do on social media?

I think most of people prefer to use social media to contact people, share their lives or do something for entertainment etc. You know the most popular social media in China is definitely WeChat and all-in-one social media app allowing users including me to do everything from sending messages to you know shopping online. It’s really convenient.

1. Have you ever posted anything on social media?

Yes, absolutely. I post quite regularly on social media, especially when I’m traveling, attending concerts, or achieving something meaningful in my life. For me, it’s a great way to document memorial moments and also stay connected with my friends who live in different countries. But I also try not to always share because I value my privacy as well.

2. When did you start using social media?

I started using social media when I was in primary school, I think. Probably around the age of 9 or 10. At first, I mainly used it just to chat with my classmates or follow celebrities. But as I’ve grown older, I’ve begun to use it more purposefully, such as learning English, keeping up with current events, or networking with people who share similar interests.

3. Do you think you spend too much time on social media?

Well, to some extent, yes. There are days when I just find myself mindlessly scrolling through short videos, especially when I’m stressed or procrastinating. But I try to set limits and remind myself to spend more time on things that are genuinely productive, such as studying or working out or just reading.

4. Do your friends use social media?

Yes, absolutely. Almost all of my friends use social media on a daily basis, I would say. I mean, it has become one of the main ways we communicate, share updates, and also make plans. And some of my friends, they’re really active, they post basically every day. But others, they prefer to browse content rather than share their own life on social media.

5. What do people often do on social media?

People use social media for a wide range of purposes, I would say. Some people just like to share photos, live updates, while others prefer to watch videos, follow trends, or just learn some new skills.

Sometimes I do. I post things like selfies or photos of restaurants in my WeChat moments because I like sharing parts of my life with my friends.

I can’t really remember when exactly because I basically grew up with technology. I think I started using my first mobile phone when I was in first grade. So I was very young back then.

Yeah, definitely not just me. I think it’s everyone. We spend too much time on apps like Bilibili, YouTube, Instagram. And honestly, I think it’s a waste of time because these platforms are designed to grab my attention.

Most of my friends are on social media like Weibo or Xiaohongshu. And we often share parts of our lives there.

I mean, people do a lot of things on social media. Some people use it to show their talents like singing, dancing. Or some people like my friends and I just share things like food, travel and books we’ve read.

1. Do you or your friends like using social media?

Sample answer 1: Yeah, my friends and I are all active users of social media. It allows us to stay up to date with the latest news and current affairs, find entertaining content, stay in touch with what our friends and families are doing and share photos or videos with other people. It has become an indispensable part of our life.

Sample answer 2: Well, like it or not, we are drowning in all sorts of social media outlets. If you don t use them, you are likely to be isolated from the rest of the
world. Personally, I really love how convenient it is, like you can keep in touch with others anywhere and any time. What’s more, you are informed of what’s happening. But at the same time, I think because of the prevalence of social media, we are sort of overloaded, so I try to rely less on it.

2. Do you think you or your friends use too much social media?

Sample answer 1: There was a time when I got a little addicted to social media. I could clearly feel my attention span was narrowing and I even got restless if I didn’t check the social media for a while. Then I told a friend of mine about this problem and she suggested I should uninstall all of the social apps on my smartphone. It was really hard at the beginning. I tried to occupy myself with anything but fiddling with my phone. Now I can confidently say I’ve got rid of social media addiction.

Sample answer 2: Well, I have to say yes. For most of us, it is like an everyday occurrence. We use it a little bit more than we should do. Every morning, the first thing I do is to grab my phone to look at Facebook or Instagram to see what’s new. While commuting, I would immerse myself in all sorts of videos. So plenty of time has been spent on social media.

3. Do you want to work in social media industry? Why?

Sample answer 1: Well, probably. The industry is gaining momentum in recent years and is offering abundant career opportunities. I’ve been running my own social media accounts for a couple of years on a few popular platforms, like Facebook, and I’ve got some experience in this field. Among all types of jobs in social media, I’m particularly interested in content creation and community management, because I enjoy the creative process and interacting with users.

Sample answer 2: A very interesting question, I haven’t thought of that before. Maybe yes, guess it’s gonna be very exciting, because you are able to be exposed to new things every day, and I dont know, I reckon their working time is very flexible, and if so, that’s gonna be something that appeals to me. Most importantly, social media seems to be the future trend, so it means there are many opportunities. Maybe I will give it a try, who knows.

4. What’s the most popular social media in Vietnam? Why?

There are a large number of social media apps that have attracted users of different age groups. I guess Tiktok ranks the top in terms of popularity and the number of active users. It’s a short-form video app that allows creators to record, edit and post videos, and a lot of people have become successful video bloggers and influencers for their constant production of quality content.

5. What social media apps do you use very often?

I tend to use Facebook, as well as Youtube quite often. Facebook is a good app for catching up with friends, and see what’s happening about my friends. Youtube is very different. Personally, I use it as an informative sort of platform. I like to watch a lot of documentaries or English lessons. Generally speaking, it helps me gain knowledge about the things I’m interested in.
